The time period is the mid 1980’s, but an alternate version of the decade where technology is more advanced and more a part of people’s everyday lives. The population of the earth is significantly more than it was in the real 1980’s and its cities are much larger and dominant. Vai lives in a crammed colossal high-rise in her time’s Tokyo.

Every morning, she works as a newspaper delivery girl on an enormous route throughout a bustling and at times dangerous section of the city. The paper she delivers is electronic but with no internet she is required to transfer each recipient’s delivery at a port outside their door. In the early hours, she rides a modified collapsable bike in and out of buildings, up and down hallways and across rooftops. She is always listening to music on her Walkman.

On a transit ride, Vai finds a cracked cassette tape and that night falls asleep listening to its strange but beautiful music…

Vai is our second character from the lore behind NOVA NIMBUS. She is our main character and so we wanted to give her the same introduction we gave her counterpart Audillus. We took the same approach and designed, illustrated, animated, and scored her portrait as a short loop to give you another look into the world we’d love to keep exploring!
